There’s an interesting blog post over at the New York Post by Kyle Smith. It seems that in a recently published book, Revival: The Struggle for Survival Inside the Obama White House, President Obama presented an overweight aid with a salad for lunch. Apparently the aid protested that he was capable of looking after his own health, to which the president replied:
I love you, man. I want you to look after yourself. Eat the salad.
In the book, this is taken as an example of what a caring guy Obama is.
So Obama, who can’t manage to quit smoking, is forcing salads on his unwilling aide? So how do you think it would have gone over if the aide were to go up to the president as he prepared to light up, grabbed the cigarette out of his hand, and said:
I love you, man. I want you to look after yourself. Put the cigarettes down.
At any rate, Kyle Smith sees this food-controlling behavior as emblematic of the nanny state which knows better than you do what’s good for you. It’s an interesting article that also explores another telling anecdote. Check it out!
